News from the Tournament Director

Dear Rotarian Friends,

from the contacts we are having with the registrants and with perspective participants the Organising Committee and I are realising that some may encounter little organisational problems (visa, travel plan etc.). This is why we have decided to postpone the entry deadline which is then July, 19 2007, 10,00 a.m. (Italy time).

Thanks to the availability of the Hotels Managers, also the promotional package and the special tariffs can be booked until July, 19.

Please be reminded that there is a limited availability of places which will oblige us to adopt the rule first come first served.

So please take a minute to fill in the on line registration form to be sure to participate this unique event for Rotarian tennis players.

Anybody needing assistance or an invitation to obtain the visa can contact me on info@rotarytennis.org.

It’s only 65 days to the start of the III ITFR World Championship, don’t miss it!

Kind regards

Marco Marinaro

President of Organising Committee

ITFR WTC 2007

The venue: “Dininno Tennis Centre”

The venue of the Championship is the “Dininno Tennis Centre”, just 100 mt from Grand Hotel Salerno.

The town administration last March started the renovation of the courts, which will be inaugurated on September, 8 2007 with the III ITFR World Tennis Championship.

The centre has 4 hard courts, just few meters far from the sea in a breathtaking landscape. Click here to see the photo gallery http://www.rotarytennis.org/eng/gallery.php?a=d&i=17

Gulunap Project

As you already know of the mission of the tournament is supporting the “Africa Project” promoted by Rotary Club Salerno. What you don’t know is that this project is part of a bigger project promoted jointly by the University of Naples “Federico II” and the University of Gulu, Northern Uganda called “Gulunap Project” … (Click here to continue) link: www.gulunap.unina.it

Magna Graecia: Paestum, archeology and gastronomy

The excursion to Paestum is a unique chance to see the best preserved Greek Temples in the world and the only existing examples of ancient Greek wall paintings, the most famous of which is the Diver's Tomb.

Paestum is the Roman name of the ancient colony of Posidonia, founded around 600 b.C. by Greeks coming from Sybaris, another colony in the south of Italy (the Magna Graecia).

The excursion will start at 8,30 a.m. with the transfer (by bus) from Salerno to Paestum (40 minutes). The first stop will be the archaeological area: three exceptionally well preserved examples of Greek temples in doric style will astonish and fascinate the visitors with their grandeur and majesty. The group will visit also the National Archaeological Museum, keeping unique examples of Greek frescoes, the metopes (bas-reliefs) from the near temple of Hera at the mouth of Sele river, and remains dating back to the times of the Greek colony and then of the Roman city.

After a quick visit of the early Christian basilica the first part of the visit will finish and the participants will then have a quick lunch tasting one of the most famous and typical products of Italian cuisine: mozzarella and all the other dairy products made with buffalo cheese. Paestum in fact is world famous not only because of its temples, but also because it is one of the few little areas in Campania where the real and original mozzarella comes from. The excursion will end with a visit of a water buffalo farm.

The return to Salerno is scheduled at 2,00 p.m..
