I am pleased to inform you that from the 8th to the 15th of September 2007 the “3rd ITFR World Tennis Championship – Rotarians’ Tennis Meeting” (International Tennis Fellowship of Rotarians – Rotary International) will take place in Italy (in Salerno). This initiative will be an important occasion for all Rotarians, who play or who are fond of tennis all over the world, to meet each other in spirit of the motto “Score an ‘ace’ with Rotary! For a winning ‘service’!”. Tennis’ principles perfectly share the Rotarian spirit, and loyalty and fair-play make tennis special for our objectives. ITFR is one such privileged instrument in order to promote friendship and solidarity all over the world. The presence of Rotary International in all continents (168 Countries) gives ITFR the opportunity to network with members of different nationalities having the same Rotarian objectives and the same interest in tennis. As all Rotarian initiatives, this important event (which takes place in Italy for the first time) will be not only an important achievement for the Fellowship and for the Rotary in Italy, but also it will also give support to specific initiatives of solidarity (“Africa project”) through the Club (Rotary Club Salerno Onlus) that organizes this tournament. The international event has obtained moral patronage from the most important institutional organizations. Firstly, I thank the Mayor Vincenzo De Luca and with him the Municipal Administration of Salerno that without hesitation and with enthusiasm has supported me immediately in this ambitious project by opening to host Rotarian friends from all over the world in our town. I also thank with particular gratitude Giovanni Petrucci, President of C.O.N.I. ,Francesco Ricci Bitti, President I.T.F. (International Tennis Federation), John James, President of European Tennis Federation (Tennis Europe), Angelo Binaghi, President F.I.T. (Italian Tennis Federation), Etienne de Villiers, Executive Chairman and President A.T.P. (Association of Tennis Professionals), Michele Raccuglia, President of the Committee Region Campania F.I.T., Dennis Van Der Meer, President P.T.R.( Professional Tennis Registry), whose moral support has given indisputable prestige to the Championship. Special thanks to Francesco Rutelli, Vice President of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of the Cultural Assets of the Italian Republic. Last, but not least, I would like to thank Tomislav Maravic, President and founder of ITFR, who, with the Board ITFR, at first has named me ITFR Tour Director for Europe and immediately after has assigned me the organization of this World Championship confirming my enthusiasm for the event and in our beautiful town. My sincere thanks to the Rotary International Board Director Raffaele Pallotta d’Acquapendente and to the Governors of the District 2100 R.I. Vito Mancusi (2006/07) and Giancarlo Calise (2007/08), to the Rotaract District Representatives Alessandra Focà (2006/07) and Vincenzo Russo (2007/08) and to the Presidents and Members of Salernitan Clubs that together and with a profound Rotarian spirit have organized this event (Club Salerno, Club Salerno Duomo, Club Salerno Est, Club Salerno Nord Est Valle del Picentino, Rotaract Salerno). I am sure that we will spend an unforgettable week of Rotarian friendship all together, in this wonderful area, renowned all over the world for its extraordinary natural, archaeological and artistic beauty. I hope to meet you in great numbers “in action” to pursue the common Rotarian action in order to score another … “ace”!
